About
YMCA
In 1844 George Williams
founded the first YMCA in London. He felt that
the youth in the city needed self-improvement
in the areas of spirit, mind, and body. He devised
a program that would meet his goals and also
develop the character of the youth. The goal
was to instill a guiding principle to their
lives and improve the quality of their lives.
Now, more than two
hundred-fifty years later there are YMCA programs
in 120 countries around the world, and over
30 million YMCA members. YMCA Taipei was founded
in 1945. Over the last sixty years we have created
6 branches, and 2 camp sites. YMCA's mission
has been the same as when it started in the
nineteen hundreds; our commitment to spirit,
mind, and body help the development of good
character in today's youth.
